The Mount Laurel problem

Your next customer might not be a person.

Mount Laurel is office parks, light industrial, and hotels. It has the third most hotels of any town in New Jersey, behind only Atlantic City and Newark, and a big share of South Jersey's largest employers sit off Route 38 and along Commerce Parkway. So if you're a trade here, half your work might not be somebody's kitchen. It might be a forty thousand square foot building, and the person deciding is a facilities manager who has never met you and has three other quotes on his desk.

A homeowner

  • Wants to know you won't wreck the place
  • Cares about the price and whether you seem decent
  • Reads reviews from people down the street
  • Decides in an afternoon

A facilities manager

  • Wants your license and insurance before he picks up the phone
  • Cares whether you've done a building this size before
  • Reads your commercial references
  • Decides with three other quotes in front of him

Most sites in this town are built for the first one and quietly lose the second. Yours can do both. It just has to be built that way on purpose.

Why it's like that

Everybody drives through here.

Routes 38 and 73 cross here, and I-295 and the Turnpike are both right there. The township got its name in 1872 from a hill of laurel trees at the main crossroad, and the Lenape laid the original trails that most of those roads still follow. This has been a place people pass through for a very long time.

Which is the whole reason the office parks and the hotels and Centerton Square are here, and it's the reason your customers aren't only your neighbors. Somebody whose office is on Fellowship Road, somebody staying on 73 for two nights, somebody who just moved into one of the new developments. They don't know you. They don't know anybody who knows you. They are going to search, and what they find is the entire first impression.

What works here

Build for both, or lose half the town.

Put the credentials where they're visible

License number, insurance, bonding, years in business. A homeowner skims past it. A facilities manager is looking for it before he'll call you, and if he can't find it in ten seconds he calls the next guy.

Show the commercial work

If you've done an office, a warehouse, a hotel, that needs to be on the site. Not buried in a gallery. A trade that only shows kitchens gets treated like a trade that only does kitchens.

Still be easy to reach

None of the above matters if the phone number is hard to find. Both of your customers want the same thing there, and it's the part most sites get wrong.

Every demo on this site is a working example, not a screenshot. Have a look at what your version could be.

If you're closer to Cherry Hill, the same rules apply.

Let's talk about your Mount Laurel business.

Tell me where you are and who you actually sell to. I'll tell you straight what I'd build and why. If you don't need a site, I'll say that too.
